A member asked:

What does stenosis of the left fallopian tube mean? can it be repaired?

Tubal stenosis: The term "stenosis" means narrowing or restriction of the normal passageway. Tubes which are described in this way are generally compromised as to function (i.e., some problems with infertility). If both tubes are affected, surgical correction may be necessary. If not, only one tube is necessary for fertilization to occur.

Narrow tube opening: Stenosis means that that the lumen (opening) of the Fallopian tube has been reduced in its caliber. It is similar to putting your foot on a running garden hose which reduces the amount of water that can pass through the restriction. Passing a stent through the narrow area can help temporarily, but if the stenosis is due to external adhesions, they can be more successfully removed.
