Not necessarily: It depends on the cause and severity of hypertension. Losing weight, exercise, and reducing salt intake will help but may not bring the blood pressure to normal level, If you have high blood pressure, it is imperative that you follow your doctor's instructions and the take the medication as advised. Wish you good health! - Have a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, milk and milk products, nuts, beans, legumes, lentils and small amounts of lean meats. Avoid saturated fats. Drink enough water daily, so that your urine is mostly colorless. Exercise at least 150 minutes/week and increase the intensity of exercise gradually. Do not use tobacco, alcohol, weed or street drugs in any form. Practice safe sex, if you have sex.

No: It's genetically programmed. Keeping a very low-salt diet can delay the onset, but ultimately it's going to happen. The tremendous increase in average life span during the 1960's and 1970's was largely due to the introduction of effective anti-hypertensive medications, even as we were exercising less and eating more processed foods.
