It happens: I caution the use of earbuds. If you remember what an old cannon looks like an earbud is basically a ramrod & just the right size to push it in toward the drum (like a cannon ball). It can easily cause an accumulation of wax near the drum that would drop hearing up to 30% or so. An exam can confirm or find another issue.
