Dentist: Dentist may refer you to an Oral Surgeon. Between now and your visit measure the size of the lesion daily and record the data. That information can be very helpful in determining the need for treatment.

Dentist First: ANY sore or spot that doesn't heal within two weeks--anywhere on your body--should be examined by a professional. In this case, I would recommend a dentist rather than a primary care physician. However, you can also see an oral surgeon...they are highly qualified to examine such sores. And, if there is a need for treatment, such as a biopsy, for example, an oral surgeon can do that quite nicely.
