Can but shouldn't: Medications like lansoprozole work best when taken 30-60 mins prior to eating. The eating triggers the proton-pump to produce acid (actually hydrogen) . When the drug is in the blood stream, it shuts off these pumps. At night, these pumps are not very active and thus you are not getting the biggest bang for the buck.

Lansoprazole works best when taken 30 to 60 minutes before eating for most people, as most people have symptoms during the day. However, if a person experiences indigestion, heartburn, or reflux at nighttime, that is a case where it may be better to take lansoprazole in the evening.
