A member asked:

My 10 year old daughter got stung in the neck by a bee on saturday afternoon. she is not allergic but the area is still quite swollen. is this normal?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Yes & no: Reaction to any stinging insect can vary from almost nothing to full anaphylaxis.Since it is obvious she didn't have a major event, this falls into the lesser but more vigorous ones. The body often releases chemicals around the area of a bite to wall off any foreign material injected. These cause the capillaries to leak/swelling & some local heat. When this occurs it can take days for it to resolve
