Doubt teeth: This is more likely one of the many intestinal viruses the kid will have over time. They usually have 2-3/yr until age 5 and may or may not have fever with it. The main therapy Is making sure they remain hydrated. Pedialyte, apple sauce, Tylenol for comfort usually do the trick. Cough meds are worthless at this age.

Double whammy: Sounds like your son has two concurrent but unrelated problems. He probably is teething and has a virus, both at the same time. Keep him hydrated. Give him a cold teething ring. If OTCs don't help with the hydration, call your Pediatrician. Now would also be the perfect time to call a Pedodontist, a children's Dental Specialist, to schedule his first dental exam.
