HRT: The best advice about HRT is to use the lowest effective dose to manage symptoms for the shortest amount of time possible. So, you may want to try weaning off of it and see if you have symptoms. Vaginal dryness can be managed with lubricant or vaginal estrogen, which is safer than systemic HRT. 17 years is a long time - but it's a very personal decision.
