A member asked:

Ive been on amitriptyline for about 4 weeks at 10 mg and now i want to stop due to the side effects my doctor said at such a low dosage i can just stop. no taper is necessary. is a taper necessary ?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

No.: 10 mg of this medication is a very low dose. The most typical side effect of such a low dose is a little bit of sedation. Tapering is not necessary. However, it sounds like there is a bigger problem--trust issues with your physician. Take the opportunity to talk with the treating physician about the goals, risks, and benefits of your treatment.
