These are separate: Yes, they can both happen. They are not associated but two separate diagnoses not connected to each other. You do not always need surgery for these. See a rheumatologist.

Yes, but...: You certainly can have both problems together, but they are very different. Carpal tunnel syndrome is caused by compression of the median nerve as it travels through the base of the hand. DeQuervain's is a tendon inflammation of the thumb. It would be worth finding out if there is a common root cause - like diabetes or thyroid problems.
