Chronic Worry: All things considered, i would simply suggest that you explain it as "worrying a lot" and using a light switch analogy. People diagnosed with gad have a hard time turning worry "off" whereas "normal worriers" are able to control worry. Explain that worry is in response to anxiety (attempt at coping with anxiety) although leads to more anxiety. Many cognitive behavioral therapy resources available.
