Infection: The signs of infection are redness, heat, pain, swelling, and drainage. If you have one or more of these, you may need antibiotics. If it is tiny, that may be a folliculitis (like an infected pimple). If it is larger, it may be a cellulitis, especially if you spent some time on your knees, as in gardening or kneeling on tile.
