Likely infection: An insect bite that is red is likely infected which commonly happens because the skin now had an opening to the outside world. This is called cellulitis. Antibiotic ointment on it twice a day and keeping it clean can help it heal, and seeing a doctor if it gets more painful, redder, or swollen.
