A member asked:

How many days would i need to be hospitalized after have a shirodka stitch put in? how weeks pregnant would i be when the stitch is done? is there a difference between a shirodka and a cervical cerclage?

Shirodkar ?: The Shirodkar procedure is named for the physician who originated this as a prevention of premature delivery secondary to an incompetent cervix in pregnancy. A cervical "cerclage" is done with different suture material, but is essentially for the same purpose. A prior history of premature delivery, or a shortened cervix while pregnant, will be treated with either, usually at about 12 weeks.
