Chest pain:one side: Sharp pain in the chest which makes it difficult to take a deep breath is probably arising from the surface of the lung. With shallow breaths, and even a mild bit of congestion, the lung surface can fold on itself (like a collapsing balloon) and when inhaling deeply, the "fold" expands causing what is called "pleuritic" pain. Take short deeper breaths to expand the lung and the pain should stop.
