Your question is ???: Not so long ago the flu was always diagnosed by exam. Sometimes at a research hospital a swab could be sent to the virology lab & take a few days for confirmation. After you have seen a few hundred cases you do the test more to confirm your suspicion. If it would make you feel better to have one go to an urgent care center & have one done.
