Sounds like flu: The test for flu is not very reliable. The CDC reports it is 40-70% sensitive, which means that a negative tests are falsely negative in 30-60% cases. Most clinicians report that the test is negative in ~50% of patients with clinical symptoms consistent with flu. Your symptoms are consistent with the flu, and it is most likely cause of these symptoms during winter months in a young adult.
