Every 10 years: An adult should have a Tetanus vaccination every 10 years. For women in the US, a recent recommendation is to also have a Tdap (Tetanus plus Pertussis) vaccination during each pregnancy. So, if there has been no Tetanus vaccination in the past 10 years, the current recommendation in such a case would be to get a Tdap shot.
