Depends on the type: Most tumors of the pituitary gland (90%) are benign tumors. Cancers of the pituitary gland fall into two categories: metastatic and primary. Metastatic cancers can go to the pituitary.Prognosis is dependent on where the cancer came from (ie. Is it lung, breast or melanoma?). Pituitary carcinomas arise from the pituitary gland.Treatment is multimodal and involves surgery, radiation and chemotherapy.
