Is cancer of the pituitary gland difficult to treat?

Depends : True pituitary cancers are exceedingly rare and may be primary (originating in the pituitary gland) or metastatic (cancer spread from elsewhere). Surgery to resect these tumors may be performed through craniotomy or through the nose (transnasal). While there are pitfalls in any operation, those who perform these operations commonly have excellent outcomes. The underlying cause must be determined.
