A member asked:

Does minor tears in cervix or vagina increase risk of amniotic fluid embolism? i was told during a pap once i had friable cervix.

Cervix ?'s: Amniotic fluid embolism is usually associated with Caesarean sections and is a rare event. It is not a risk in tears in the cervix or vagina. A "friable" cervix is one with cells from the endocervical canal which migrate over the external cervix secondary to inflammation. With pap smears, sometimes bleeding takes place from the abrasion on the surface of the cervix.
