1/100,000: Amniotic fluid embolism is an extremely rare even occurring in about 1/100,000 deliveries. In my 20 years of practice I have only seen one. While an AFE is very serious it is also quite rare. Sometimes it is helpful to put various risks into perspective. The most dangerous thing you are doing during pregnancy is driving. Car accidents are much more common we do it without thinking or worrying.
