Intense Pain: Everyone is a bit different as to their pain tolerance, and since each surgery and placement is different, there is a wide range of healing time. A few days would be the norm, but your best bet is to have your surgeon monitor the healing.

Average Times: run about 3-5 days for most patients as far as the worst of the pain. The area swells about 72 hours after the procedure with pain peaking at about the end of the 72 hrs. Then things calm down. You can use ice and your and your pain medication during that time. As pointed out, the time depends on the patient, location, etc. but these are generally what I see. Beyond that, contact your dentist.
