Extremely rare: Most of the strains of Group A Strep that caused Rheumatic fever are now extinct in the United States. In almost 20 years of practice, I've only found one - and that was years ago, in a patient traveling up from Puerto Rico. If the germ was captured on a culture, your doctor could (in theory) tell you-although probably the culture is gone by now. I would say your chances are essentially zero.
