Yes: Animals can be vectors for many illnesses. They play & walk in soil and water which may be contaminated. Most of these viral and bacterial illnesses are self limiting. Watch out for dehydration - dry mouth, listlessness, failure to feed, very high heart rate, sunken eyes. Consult a dr immediately. If there is more than 10 bowel motions a day or blood in the stool, your child may need an antibiotic

Possible allergy: Everyone of us respond to allergy in different ways. Best to have your two year old see a pediatric allergist for testing and rule out other allergens that you may not be aware of.
