Pre-diabetes: If your fasting glucose is 6.5 mmol/L, that is in the range that suggests you may be on a path to developing diabetes. Many doctors now prescribe metformin for people with pre-diabetes in an effort to prevent the progression to diabetes. Measuring your hemoglobin A1C level will give a better indication of what risk you have for progressing to diabetes.

Check TSH, T4: It is possible that your hypothyroidism is undertreated which would make your Hemoglobin A1C go up. Ask your MD to recheck your TSH and T4. Also, are you taking any other new medications (particularly steroids, estrogens, statins) which might contribute to increasing Hemoglobin A1C.? If so, please review with your MD
