Evaluation: The Mirena IUD contains Progesterone. One of the side effects is thinning the endometrial lining resulting in absent or light periods. To bleed with a Progesterone IUD present at age 56 warrants some concern. You will need to see an Obgyn for an evaluation to determine if you are in fact menopausal and experiencing abnormal post menopausal bleeding
