Yes: It would be very helpful to have had an EKG during that event to determine the heart rate and rhythm at that time. It is a good idea to have a heart examination and baseline EKG anyway. If recurrent palpitations are experienced you could wear an outpatient heart monitor which would record your heart activity for at least 24 hours or longer. The cardiologist would order any other appropriate tests
