Persistent cold: This is most often due to exposure to other children with similar illnesses and exposure to cigarette smoke. There are other causes of persistent coughing that require investigation with a CXR, blood work and a sweat test. She may have asthma. All the best as you work through this and I hope she starts to feel better. Cancer is rare.

Not cancer: An infant will often get a viral bronchiolitis that will give persisting cough and tend to recur over several months in their first year. They then get 5-7 respiratory illnesses/yr to age 5 when it lessens. They are also sensitive to household irritants, fumes, dust, etc. In 4 decades of practice I have never seen , heard or read of any such case be cancer.
