A picture is worth..: ..a thousand words. There are NUMEROUS causes of tiny red bumps on skin that itch. Contact allergy (touching something irritating), ingesting something allergic (food, drugs), dry skin or eczema, scabies (itch mites), other insect bites, infection (maybe more likely if pus present). You can try OTC cortisone or antibiotic cream, and if not better soon, see your doctor. Best wishes!

Staph or strep?: Your skin might be colonized with staph or strep bacteria which periodically become more active. Or some entirely different kind of dermatitis. See a doctor while the problem is active and spreading. If you have already seen a doctor without clear answer, see a dermatologist.
