A member asked:

My 3 month old has his first cold temp of 98.2 and coughing and stuffed up and not sure if i should take him in or not?

Doubt it: The first months are troubled by narrow nasal passages & exposure to dust, fragrances, smoke & other irritants.Baby tries to flush these out of the nose with mucous but this often ends as congestion & produces rattling with breathing & cough. The best rx is washing out the nose with saline & suctioning the remainder. The temperature listed is not a fever. If the kid feeds well you can monitor at home

Mgt.: I would advise checking his temperature and nasal saline drops with gentle suction. If he has any difficulty breathing, a cough or fever please call your PCP.
