Get a thorough exam: It is important to have a thorough history and exam-not all coughs are bacterial (most are not) so it is important to differentiate if the sickness is viral, allergic, non-allergic (cold air induced rhinitis) or bacterial, before taking a prescription. All coughs may sound the same, but there could be subtle differences/tests to help determine the cause. Hope you get well soon!

The two illnesses are most likely not related if you initially recovered. Cold air, viral induced asthma should be considered. The type of cough is important information in determining the underlying cause. Keep well hydrated, reduce post nasal drip with nasal saline and rest. If the cough persists, then additional testing and an evaluation are indicated.
