My son broke his little finger. at fourways life emergency he had x-rays taken and they strapped it with plaster to his ring finger. is it necessary to take him to see an orthopedic surgeon?

Can't say for sure: Some of these will do well with such buddy taping but others have the potential for long term problems if not treated correctly. The fingers have a complex system of ligaments/attachments and if these pull off or are displaced they can require a pin be inserted to assure proper healing. The treating doc should have given you guidance..I would follow that.
