Jones fracture: A very common fracture of the fifth metatarsal is at the base called a tuberosity fracture. The blood supply here is good and with proper immobilization they heal. If the fracture is more distal it could be a jones fracture. The blood supply here is diminished. Casting with a bone healing system is one option. Placing a screw through the fracture is another common procedure done for this.

Bone stimulator or +: Metatarsal fx usually become pain free in 6-8 weeks (clinically healed) .Bony bridging of the fracture on xray may take up to 16 weeks . Certain fractures of the base are notorious for not healing (jones fracture). Depending on where the fracture is and if you have any underlying medical conditions that inhibit healing(diabetes/neuropathy/steroids)the doc may require bone stimulator or surgery.

More immobilization: Do not smoke. Eat a healthy diet. May need more immobilization. You may benefit with a bone stimulator in cases of delayed healing.
