Dr. John Chiu answered

Talk to doctor: Whether metformin would be right for you depends on the goal and other risk factors since your fasting glucose is only slightly high. Losing the extra weight along with a regular exercise program (3-4 hrs a week) while reducing your carb intake will do more for you than metformin .

Lose weight: Agree with Dr. Chiu: Rather than going for a pill, aim for losing the extra 25 pounds and exercising at least 150 minutes per week. For good health - Have a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, milk and milk products, nuts, beans, legumes, lentils and small amounts of lean meats. Avoid saturated fats. Drink enough water daily, so that your urine is mostly colorless. Exercise at least 150 minutes/week and increase the intensity of exercise gradually. Do not use tobacco, alcohol, weed or street drugs in any form. Practice safe sex, if you have sex.

Are you diabetic?: Metformin would only be appropriate if you were diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. Your fasting blood sugar does not meet criteria for this diagnosis. The most important next step for you is weight loss to prevent development of diabetes and to treat the fatty liver. If you need help with a diet and exercise plan, see your doctor. Good luck to you!!
