Antibiotics: Antibiotics will not cure a Dental abscess, just slow the spread of infection. ER will only give you more antibiotics and tell you what I'm going to tell you, GO SEE A DENTIST, NOW. Dentist will do root canal or extraction, or refer you to specialist for treatment.

See the dentist: Emergency rooms are not equipped to handle dental infections. Most dentists will see you right away if you have an emergency. The source of the infection must be treated. Resistant bacteria will develop and make the infection harder to treat if you keep taking antibiotics.

Go to ER if:: Dentist cannot see you for immediate evaluation and you have increasing swelling and/or, fever. If you have difficulty breathing or swallowing call 911 or go to ER immediately.
