A 56-year-old female asked:
If an ovary can not be seen on ultrasound does that mean a cancer would be hidden also?

Dr. Jarrod Kaufmananswered
General Surgery 30 years experience
Ovary not seen on US: This can be technique related or due to the location of the ovary
Generally if it is enlarged or abnormal it would be seen on ultrasound
Other modalities can be used including physical exam or CT
Follow up with your OB-GYN is recommended if you are having symptoms, why was the study performed?
