Antigen, DNA/RNA: These types are exceedingly rare in the US, so testing usually isn't necessary. The standard antibody tests may miss these infections, but the p24 antigen test (and therefore the antigen-antibody combo or "4th generation" tests) picks them up. In rare cases, testing for the virus itself with an RNA or DNA blood test is necessary. But for the reasons above, this is rarely necessary in the US.
