Can a combo hiv test done at 5 months miss an infection?

A blood test can detect HIV 18- 45 days after exposure. Further testing can be done up to 3- 5 months ,but rarely after 6 months. Test immediately if believe you were exposed.

A negative result from a 4th gen combo test at 5 months rules out HIV. However, HIV is only one of the STDs. A condom may not protect against HPV, Herpes, LGV, syphilis, pubic lice etc. It would be prudent to see your doctor for an evaluation.
