I had protected sex a little over 6 months ago. got the 4th gen hiv test done around 32 days after the protected sex. was non reactive. i am experiencing flu type symptoms now could it be from an hiv infection?

Of all people with "flu type" symptoms, HIV is the cause in under one in millions of cases -- even in people at high risk for HIV. And you definitely are not at high risk, having had a) protected sex and b) a negative test that is around 99% reliable. Don't worry about it.

Agree with Dr. H re HIV, however, HIV is only one of the STDs. A condom may not protect against HPV, Herpes, LGV, syphilis, pubic lice etc. It would be prudent to see your doctor for an evaluation. Visit this site for information: https://www.cdc.gov/std/default.htm Wish you good health!
