GP & psych meds: A GP can prescribe meds for anxiety and mild depression; but not all may be comfortable doing so. Discuss with your doctor. Ask for a referral if he/she is not willing to prescribe. Also, look online for mental health professionals near you. If you've not been properly diagnosed, an intake with a mental health professional would be a good start. Keep your pcp informed. Anxiety/depression.: General practitioners are capable of prescribing medications initially for anxiety and depression. A psychiatrist would be helpful if initial treatment options prescribed by your GP do not help.
