A 40-year-old female asked:

how long must i take auro amoxiclav for an tooth abscess?

Antibiotics: There is no one right answer. First the cause of the abscess needs to be addressed. Second, I hope you are not self prescribing. Dosage and regimen depend upon numerous factors including your medical history, dental history, dosage, regimen, size and cause of infection, etc. Discuss this with the prescribing doctor or if you don't have one, get one.

Penicillin: For as long as your Dentist said you should take it. Usually 4x/day for at least 5 days, but a 2nd course of medication may be necessary. Antibiotics will not cure an abscess, just reduce the spread of infection to other organ systems. For a cure specific dental treatment is required. Talk this over with your Dentist before you run out of pills.

Wisdom teeth- doctor said I will have no swelling. So why take them out?

Dr. Jeffrey Jarvis

Future problems : Many people just don't have enough room in their jaws for proper erruption or maintenance of wisdom teeth. Sometimes they can form cysts, or damage the other teeth. As a result, we often recommend removing the wisdom teeth before there is pain or swelling. A common time to consider this is around age 15-17, as the roots are not completely formed yet, and the surgery is easiest.

Dentist may have kit: There are several tests that swab the teeth and the solution made from the swab can be analyzed.

Provided original answer
I was referring to the Cari-free System where the teeth are swabbed, the swab is placed in a special solution, shaken, and placed in a calibrated electronic device that measures the activity level of the bacteria on the tooth. There are studies to validate that the number reported correlqtes with a predication of future caries incidence.

Where can I purchase mouth guards for grinding teeth?

2 doctor answers4 doctors weighed in
Dr. Shawn Murray
Dentistry 15 years experience
Mouth guards: Almost every dentist can make you a custom mouth guard. You shouldn't buy a mouth guard that is not made for you specifically or it can cause problems. Just like one size fits all shoes aren't a good idea.

Fluid: Saliva doesn't necessarily have a role in cleaning your teeth. It would matter if you didn't have saliva while cleaning your teeth.
