Varies: I assume this antibiotic was prescribed by your dentist after an exam for this abscess. Antibiotics will calm down an infection but will not eliminate or "cure" an abscess. The source of the abscess needs to be removed, which is the infected nerve in the tooth. After starting antibiotics for an abscess it usually takes 24-48 hours for it to start having a noticeable effect. Be sure to follow up.

This varies: Three things are necessary for resolution of abscess or other infections- remove the cause; proper dose, frequency and duration of antibiotic; and your body's own healing ability. In general, you should start to see improvement in 24 to 48 hours but no one can tell you about your particular situation without personally treating you. Ask the dentist actually treating you what to expect.

It may not: The antibiotic is treating the symptom not the source. Amoxicillin will not be able to get inside the tooth and treat the infection. You will need to see a dentist/root canal specialist- endodontist or get the tooth extracted to eliminate the abscess.

Tooth Abscess: It takes 24-48 hours or the antibiotic to start working. You should see improvement 48-72 hours. The only way to prevent it from coming back is to have the tooth treated so see your dentist asap. The antibiotic only buys you time;not a cure.

2 days: It usually takes about two days for the medication to have enough effect to reduce the swelling.
