Ankle edema: Swelling in the ankles that gets better with elevation is called edema. It is body water that has leaked out from the blood vessels and comes from having too much pressure on the vessels, blocked vessels, or too much fluid in the body. It can be caused by wearing tight elastic around your leg or calf. If you are, stop. It is not rare after pregnancy, but if it is getting worse, see a doctor.
