See below: In penicillin allergic patients with streptococcal pharyngitis the macrolides-erythromycin, biaxin (clarithromycin) or zithromax as well as Clindamycin are effective. If the penicillin allergy was only a rash and not immediate hypersensitivity cephalosporin antibiotics are safe and effective.

No, but...: Group a strep, the bacteria that causes 'strep throat' is still universally sensitive to pcn. However, other bacteria can cause pharyngitis and acute tonsillitis, as well as many viruses. If you are not getting better, would get back with doc and see if you need a full culture or evaluation for other causes such as mono(caused by ebv virus and can sometimes give false positive result strep test).

If verified- treat: The majority of sore throats are viruses, but if you have verified strep you should have it treated with an antibiotic. Symptoms may improve in a day or two without treatment, but complications would still be possible without proper treatment.

Clindamyon?: Not familiar with that drug. Clindamycin is an antibiotic prescribed for throat infections. Like all medicines, take it as prescribed and under the direction of a physician.
