A member asked:

I get shin pain sometimes after excersising but it goes away in 1 day is that shin splints or what is it?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Probably: Shin splints occur when the outside edge of the bone, the periosteum, gets inflamed often with repetitive activity like running. They also can include tiny tears of the muscles in the shin where they attach to the tibia. Treatment can include rehab/PT, icing after exercise, avoiding overuse (too much, too soon), improving running gait and updating your footwear or adding orthotics/inserts.
