Nerve compression: Based on your history alone, it sounds like you have a pinched nerve involving your median nerve - since it is provoked when you reach your arm forward it is possibly being "pinched" at your thoracic outlet (near your armpit). Usually thoracic outlet syndrome involves more than just one finger however, so see your Dr for a thorough physical and more detailed history to better determine the cause.
