Quality of pain?: Hello, Any fevers? Rash? pain upon urination or discolored/bloody urine? history of UTI? Back pain could be due to various reasons. It may be muscular pain, spinal pain, or issues with the kidney such as a kidney stone, etc. If you can answer more questions, it will help me guide you to what may be the best treatment. Have you had this pain before? Please go to the ER if pain worse.

Back strain?: Did you injure yourself? Back strains are quite painful. The best medications are paracetamol and ibuprofen. The good news is that the majority of back strains settle down within a week and the rest settle over a few weeks. Keep gently active, avoid bending/lifting. Can see a physio (self referral) with an ACC subsidy if you have had an injury.
