Hand pain: Unless this is due to recent injury or overuse, the combination of joint pain and swelling is characteristic of arthritis. This should be helped with warm applications and, if you can take them, anti-inflammatory medications like Advil or Aleve. If symptoms persist consult a rheumatologist or hand surgeon for diagnosis and treatment. Appropriate tests will be ordered in order to make a diagnosis.
