what is the cure for hand swelling and pain after a big box fell on it?

Ice, elevation etc: I would make sure there is no major damage. See your pcp or an orthopedist or go to an urgent care center. If you feel comfortable that there is no fracture or dislocation, then a light ace wrap with an ice pack and elevation and some Ibuprofen should be all you need. If in doubt, get seen and evaluated.
